Fee Breakdown

Fees
At UWC ISAK Japan, our fee structure reflects our mission and vision. The structure needs to be transparent, inclusive, and equitable, covering all the essentials of living and learning on our residential campus. Unlike many schools, there are no hidden extras or unexpected costs.

Tuition Fee - 4,900,000 JPY
Boarding Fee - 1,825,000 JPY
Facilities Fee - 500,000 JPY
IB Years Fee -230,000 JPY

Total - 7,225,000 JPY to 7,455,000 JPY

IB Years Fee
The IB Years Fee for Grade 11 and 12 students is invoiced and paid at the same time as school fees. The IB Years Fee is prorated in line with the financial assistance (FA) award for students receiving FA. For example, students receiving a 70% FA award will receive a 70% discount for their IB Years Fee each year.

Our annual fee covers everything that defines the UWC ISAK experience:

Tuition - academic courses, assessments, and learning materials
Accommodation and Meals - full residential boarding with 3 healthy meals and 2 snacks per day
Outdoor Education (OEd) Program - mandatory and optional outdoor education adventure learning and leadership experiences
Project Weeks - includes mentorship as well as travel and accommodation, where relevant
Student and School initiated Core Clubs and Activities - includes service, arts, and physical activities
Field Trips & Excursions - curricular and co-curricular trips and experiences
Pastoral and Wellbeing Support - advisory and counseling
Comprehensive health services - national health insurance, annual health check, annual flu shot, hospital visits, OTC medicine,

This all-inclusive approach ensures that once a student joins our community, they can take part in every opportunity ISAK offers, with no financial barriers within the school program.

UWC ISAK Japan is a co-educational, full-boarding high school in Karuizawa, Nagano. It opened in 2014 as International School of Asia, Karuizawa (ISAK) and joined the UWC movement in 2017. As members of the United World Colleges movement, we are committed to making education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. Our own vision sharpens that commitment into something personal and actionable: One Life. Realize Your Potential. Be a Catalyst for Positive Change. These are aspirational statements that form the basis for how we make decisions at all levels of the school, how we teach, and how we learn together. What makes UWC ISAK Japan distinctive is the community that lives this out. Over 80 nationalities. Seventy percent of students receiving some level of financial assistance. A fully residential campus on the slopes of Mount Asama in Karuizawa, Nagano. An IB Diploma Programme, alongside a Grade 10 programme built around leadership and entrepreneurship. Each element matters. Together, they produce something harder to define - a student and alumni body that takes initiative and makes an impact, here and beyond.
